I am passionate about Professional Supervision. I believe it is a vital component in keeping you well, healthy and accountable in the challenging profession you work in. It offers a safe and protected space where you can bring complex work issues. I will work with you to tease out all of the different elements of a situation or dilemma, enabling you to reflect on your actions and explore alternative choices. Professional Supervision encourages the development of your skills, fosters a deeper understanding of your work, and opens up opportunities for validation of good practice. It is my job to give you a sense of being seen and heard, of knowing that your feelings are real. Working with people is demanding- supervision allows you to reflect upon the distress and emotional trauma you can encounter in your professional domain, providing an outlet for accumulated emotions and feelings to prevent burnout and avoid becoming desensitised. Professional Supervision is an investment in yourself.
The Supervision Process
I offer both one-to-one and group supervision. One-to-one supervision sessions usually last for one hour, whereas the length of time for group supervision will depend on the number of participants. All supervision sessions take place on a regular basis, generally every 4-6 weeks. The length of the session and the period of frequency is negotiable, and is established during our first meeting.
Ideally supervision is conducted face-to-face, as this encourages a good connection between supervisor and supervisee, and also allows for the use of interactive exercises. Face-to-face supervision sessions usually take place in a meeting room convenient to both the supervisor and the supervisee. The venue should be somewhere suitable for the discussion of sensitive and confidential issues. I currently use rooms located in local community centres, libraries or voluntary organisations. One-to-one supervision can also be highly successful conducted via remote online platforms, but is less ideal for group supervision.
Supervision fees can vary, depending on the location and format (e.g. face-to-face or remote). Individual supervision starts at £45 per hour. Group supervision is between £30 and £35 per person for a 2 hour session (maximum of 4 supervisees per group). Contact me for a free initial discussion.
